Akinwale Onipede is an artist and art historian. He attended Christ's School Ado Ekiti (1976-80) and the University of Benin (1982-1986) graduating with a degree in Fine Arts (painting). He bagged his Ph.D. in Visual Arts History in 2016 from the University of Lagos where he presently teaches. Onipede is an artist whose interest and practice straddle different fields of the art profession. At different times, he has practiced as an art teacher, artist, cartoonist, art writer, administrator, critic and culture activist. He is well exhibited with over thirty shows. His works are inspired by his immediate Nigerian milieu and the socio-cultural and political developments around the world. His view on art and culture have been published in over seventy articles in newspaper/magazines/ and as chapters in book and journals.
