Professor Anthonia Ngozika Maduekwe had her early primary and secondary education in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria. She obtained a higher Diploma degree in Librarianship at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, between 1977-1979, B.Ed. (Bachelor of Education) degree with a Second Class Upper Division, from the University of Lagos in 1990, Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction (English), 1991 and  Doctorate Degree (Ph.D), in Curriculum and Instruction (English), in the same University in 1998.  

Professor Maduekwe joined the services of the University of Lagos in February 1998 as an Assistant Lecturer and rose steadily through the ranks to the Professorial cadre.  Her academic responsibilities included: lecturing, and teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), across Diploma programmes, Undergraduate and Post graduate programmes, academic mentoring, multidisciplinary innovative research, and community service. She has supervised and completed over (320) undergraduate projects, over (70) Masters degree projects and (8) Ph.D completed projects while five are on their way to completion.

Her research interest spans the following areas of interest at all levels of Education: Language Teacher Education and ICT; Communication Skill Practice; Teacher Professional Growth and Competence; and Applied Linguistics. Her current research covers: (a) The use of Zoom as an online teaching and learning APP in pandemic world; (b) Pre-service Teachers’ use of Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for academic purposes: Lessons from Ghana and Nigeria; (c) Teachers Guide to Reading Comprehension Strategies at the Senior Secondary School Level (A text).

Professor Maduekwe has published over 65 publications to her credit on different aspects of pedagogical and andragogical issues in both national and international journals.  She served as a consultant and facilitator in several national and international conferences, workshops and training programmes in Africa, Britain, America, and Europe.

Professor Maduekwe is a member of several national and international professional organizations, including, the Reading Association of Nigeria, Curriculum Association of Nigeria; World Council of Curriculum and Instruction, (WCCI), (Nigeria Chapter), Education Research Network of West and Central Africa (ERNWACA), Nigeria Chapter, World Council of Curriculum and Instruction, (WCCI), Cincinnati, U.S.A, International Association of Language Educators (IALE), Ohio, and International Literacy Association(ILA), USA.
