Dr. Florence E. NWEKE
  • Nweke, Florence Ewomazino is a Senior lecturer and researcher in music at the Department of Creative Arts University of Lagos, Nigeria. She holds a B.A. (MUSIC) UNN, M.A. Music (Distinction Class) and Ph.D. Music (UNILAG). She is passionate about harnessing young talents from the suburbs and preparing them for a career or hobby in music. She is interested in working on contemporary issues in music and she has presented different papers on Music and COVID-19 recently. She is a firm believer in the saying that, “hard work pays.” She has presented papers at international and national conferences. Florence is a passionate teacher and speaker, as well as a vocal coach. She has also participated as a co-investigator in research grants including AHRC-UKRI on COVID-19, Currently a Co-investigator in the NAGEL Calvin University, US Grant. She is a Harvard Mellon School of Theatre and Performance Research Alumnus (2021). She participated in a research titled “Building sustainable global collaborative research networks” (https://www.ae.mpg.de/glo-co), funded by a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Grant-in-aid (Grant No. 19KK0064) and a Keio Global Research Institute Start-up Grant. HD is supported by funding from the Yamaha Corporation- Symposium contributor and co-author in the book chapter. She is a member of the Society of Music Perception and Cognition (SMPC), International Society for Music Education (ISME), Sound Health Network (San-Francisco, US), Association of Nigerian Musicologist (ANIM), Pan-African Society of Music and Art Education (PASMAE), Music Therapy Association of Nigeria (MUTHAN). She is a fellow of the Ife Institute of Advanced Studies (2020). A beneficiary of the Delta State Government of Nigeria Scholarship Award. 2009-2013 and University of Lagos Graduate Fellowship Award. 2009/2010, 2012/2013.
