PHARMACOLOGY, THERAPEUTICS AND TOXICOLOGY

Dr. Ishola research focus on the discovery of disease modifying drug for the treatment of neurodegenerative/neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, dementia of Alzheimer type, and epilepsy. He has his undergraduate degree in Pharmacology from University of Lagos in 2003; Master of Science in Pharmacology from University of Lagos in 2006; obtained his Doctorate in Pharmacology from University of Lagos in 2014. Over the years, He has been teaching Neuropharmacology and conducted research on medicinal plants isolates and repurposing of drug for neurodegenerative diseases with special emphasis on reactive oxygen species, neurotrophic factors and neuroinflammatory mediators using both in vivo and in vitro approaches. He mentored well over 40 undergraduate and 15 postgraduate students. Dr. Ishola is a recipient of the prestigious CV Raman International Postdoctoral fellowship in 2018 (under Dr. Rakesh Mishra, CCMB, India), TWAS-DFG Postdoctoral fellowship in 2017 (under Prof. Dr. E. Wanker (Professor of molecular medicine),  Max-Delbrueck Centre for Molecular Medicine, Berlin, Germany), International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) Postdoctoral fellowship in 2016 (under Prof. M. Morelli,  Centre of Excellence in Neuroscience, University of Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy), TWAS-CSIR postgraduate fellowship (2010-2011) (under Dr. Rakesh Shukla, Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), Lucknow, India). He has received several travel grants including IBRO travel grant to attend World Congress of Neuroscience meeting, 2015; Teaching tools workshop in Ethiopia, Manuscript writing workshop in Rabat Morocco, first IBRO-African Centre for Advanced Training in Neuroscience School at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, IUPHAR-17th World Congress of Basic and Clinical Pharmacology Conference, Cape Town South Africa etc.  He is a member of several professional bodies including; West African Society for Pharmacologist (Treasurer 2017- date), American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET), Society of Toxicology, International Society of Computational Biology (Secretary, WA Student Council), Society for Medicinal Plant Research (GA), Nigerian Society of Neuroscience and Society of Neuroscientist in Africa. He has well over 50 publications in reputable national/ international journals and as won and managed more than 5 research grants including TETFUND and NIH/FORGARTY.
