Dr. Olakunbi A. Kunrunmi is a lecturer and researcher whose primary research interest focus on conducting translational research in phycology with the goal of providing affordable biotechnological solutions to solving global challenges. Her long-term research goals are focused on bioprospecting for more oleaginous microalgal and macroalgal strains for improved biotechnological applications in nutraceuticals pharmaceutical and energy industries.

She has conducted ecological research on freshwater ecosystems in Nigeria, isolated and genetically characterized some native oleaginous microalgal strains with potentials as biofuel feedstock. She has supervised over 15 undergraduate students. She is an awardee 2014 Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Postgraduate Fellowship. She is a member of the Phycological Society of Nigeria (PSNG) and Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD).
