Dr Peter Adegbenga Adeonipekun is an Associate Professor of Botany/Palynology. He has a B.Sc. (Honors) degree Second Class Upper Division in Botany in 1989 and a M.Sc. degree in Botany/Palynology from University of Ibadan, Ibadan Nigeria in 1992. His research interests include Tertiary and Cretaceous Palynology, Bio-sequence stratigraphy, Quaternary / Cretaceous Paleoecology, Aerobiology, Melissopalynology, Ecology and Pharmaceutical palynology.
Extensive industrial and professional experiences covering the oil and gas service and production sectors as well as the solid mineral industry since 1993. In his professional and academic careers, he has been involved in biostratigraphic, sequence stratigraphic, paleoecological, palynological and environmental impact assessment studies (sectoral and project specific) for oil and gas companies and the solid mineral industry as well as the World Bank. In 2012, his presentation at the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society’s conference won the TOTAL / NMGS Best Paper Award that took him to Total E & P Headquarters in Pau France in 2014 for a week training in oil and gas exploration techniques. He is a member of the Niger Delta Stratigraphic Commission’s Biostratigraphy Subcommittee. He presently has more than 40 scientific publications in peer-reviewed foreign and Nigerian journals. He also has a Certificate in Basic Aerobiology awarded by the International Association for Aerobiology in 2015. He is a team member of two TETFUND research projects and also a lead researcher on a TETFUND/CRC sponsored project.
International Federation of Palynological Societies (IFPS), Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), Botanical Society of Nigeria (BOSON) and Palynological Association of Nigeria (PAN). He is currently the President of PAN.
