Ifeoma P. Okafor’s research focus is in reproductive health, especially maternal, newborn and child health in various population sub-groups in Nigeria. She also has interest in injury and violence prevention and control. Some of her research activities over the years include: management of malaria and other common childhood illnesses at the community level; utilization of antenatal, delivery and postnatal care services and determinants among women of child-bearing age, the role of Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) in maternity care; road safety intervention programme for commercial drivers and several other community-based studies on issues surrounding preventable maternal and child-deaths. Ifeoma was the principal researcher for the Mobil Producing health and road safety intervention for commercial bus drivers, carried out in Lagos State, co-researcher for Medical Education Partnership in Nigeria (MEPIN) sponsored project on household intervention programme on HIV & STI prevention among females who sell sex in Lagos and also co-researcher for a BRAINS sponsored project on HIV patients on treatment who are lost to follow-up from (AIDS Prevention Initiative in Nigeria) APIN Clinic.  Some of her recent publications are on client perception and quality of antenatal and family planning care/services at health facilities, unsafe road practices of commercial bus drivers, assessing and bridging facility treatment gaps for HIV & STI at the household level, self-medication among rural dwellers in Lagos State, women’s utilization of life lines in ending preventable maternal deaths, among others.
