Community Health and Primary Care, Clinical Sciences

Oluwakemi Ololade ODUKOYA, is a public health physician, an epidemiologist and biostatistician in the department of community health and primary care, faculty of clinical sciences, College of Medicine, University of Lagos. My research interests lie in developing low-cost community- oriented evidence based solutions to prevent the rising burden of non-communicable diseases.

I graduated from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos in December 2000 and received a Bachelor of Medicine and surgery degree (MBBS). I have two additional masters degrees in public health; M.P.H in 2007 and MSc (Biostatistics) in 2012, both from the University of Lagos. I completed my Post-Graduate training in Public health and was awarded a Fellowship of the National Post-graduate College of Nigeria in 2010. In addition, I have certificates in Epidemiology and Tobacco Control at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, USA and participated in a 3-month visiting scholar program at the Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Over the years, I have successfully authored more than 50 academic papers, published in local and international peer-reviewed journals. In 2014, I secured a grant awarded by the Pfizer Independent Grants For Learning And Change. With the help of my team members, we were able to train more than 90 resident doctors in three of the six geo-political zones in Nigeria, to promote the adoption of brief intervention tobacco services in clinical settings using traditional training approaches supported by text messages and e-mail prompters. I have also worked well within teams to conduct other community-based trials where I served as co-investigator. In 2017, I was awarded a Fogarty Research Fellowship Grant by the National Institutes for health, USA to conduct research in collaboration with mentors at the Harvard School of Public health. Later in 2017, I received a prestigious K43 Emerging Global Leader award, from the Fogarty International Centre to conduct a three-arm cluster randomized controlled trial to promote physical activity and healthy eating in faith based settings. In addition I have worked well within teams to secure several others grants.

I have successfully trained and mentored more than 50 post graduate students and residents in public health and I currently head the non communicable disease research group of the university of Lagos.
