Dr. Mutiu Oyekunle Sifau is a lecturer in the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, University of Lagos. He has B.Sc. (Hons.) Biology, M.Sc. Cell Biology and Genetics and Ph.D. in Cell Biology and Genetics with specialization in Molecular Genetics from University of Lagos. His research interests are in the area of Family Solanaceae, Molecular Plant Genetics, Cytogenetics, Genotoxicological studies, and Human and Animal Genetics. His research focus is on fingerprinting, genetic diversity, crop breeding and characterization using DNA-based molecular markers. He has worked extensively on the exploration, molecular characterization, genetic diversity and phylogeny on some members of family Solanaceae, with particular attention focused on Genus Solanum. At the beginning of his carrier, he worked at the Molecular Systematics Laboratory, Department of Botany, Faculty of Science, University of Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria, as a research assistant. Thereafter, he moved on to the Biotechnology Unit of National Centre for Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (NACGRAB), Ibadan, Nigeria as the head of the Molecular Biology Laboratory.

He has, and is still, been involved in many funded and collaborative projects (e.g. Grant N0: CRC 2016/12, UNILAG; TETFUND 2010; Grant N0: CRC 2005/03, UNILAG; Competitive Agricultural Research Grant Scheme (CARGS) Awards, 2011). He has supervised several undergraduate and postgraduate students. He is a reviewer for some scientific academic journals He has attended and presented papers at conferences both locally and internationally, and has also published widely in accredited academic journals. He is a member of several learned and professional organizations including Genetic Society of Nigeria (GSN), Nigerian Society of Experimental Biology (NISEB) and Botanical Society of Nigeria (BOSON).
