Mr. Elegbeleye is a Microalgal Ecologist and an Environmentalist with special focus on coastal phytoplankton as tools for environmental monitoring and assessment. He graduated from the University of Lagos in 2008 and has a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology, Masters of Science from University of Lagos in Marine Pollution and Management in 2012 and PhD (in view) in Marine Biology from the University of Lagos. Over the years, he has conducted various researches in the coastal waters of Lagos, assessing the impacts of dredging and sand-mining on water quality in relation to phytoplankton community structures. So far, he has mentored about 20 undergraduate students. He has worked in different phytoplankton laboratories, within and outside Nigeria, under the tutelage/mentorship of highly experienced phycologists such as Professor D. I. Nwankwo (University of Lagos), Professor M. O. Kadiri (University of Benin, Nigeria), Dr. I. C. Onyema (University of Lagos), Dr. T. A. Adesalu (University of Lagos), Professor M. L. Julius (St. Cloud State University, Minnesota, USA), Dr. Marina Potapova (Academy of Natural Sciences, Drexel, Philadelphia, USA) and Professor J. Johansen (John Carroll University, Cleveland Ohio, USA). He is a member of Phycological Society of Nigeria and has two publications to his credit. As a young academic, he has won and managed a research grant from Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) under the NEEDS ASSESSMENT scheme for staff training and development.
