Dr. Aderonke O. Lawal-Are is a scientist and specialist in crustacean biology, ecology and culture, with special focus on crab diversity. She had her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from the prestigious University of Lagos graduating with B.Sc. (Hons.) Zoology in 1990; M.Sc. (Fisheries) with Distinction in 1997 and Ph.D. (Fisheries) in 2006. Over the 20 years’ experience, she conducted research in Fisheries, Crustacean, Macro-invertebrate, Marine Ecology, aquaculture and mariculture. She has mentored over 200 students both in the undergraduate and postgraduate level. She has attended conferences and workshops nationally and internationally in her areas of specialisation – Fish culture, shrimp/crab culture, biology, ecology, taxonomy, genetics and stock assessment. She achieved membership of three (3) professional and academic groups vis a vis Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON), Nigeria., The Crustacean Society (TCS), USA and Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) formerly Third World Organisation for Women in Science (TWOWS), Italy. She has 41 publications and have been privileged to have received and managed TetFund sponsorship to Conference in Greece and a grant for research in Crab Culture from the Central Research Committee of the University of Lagos. She was Sub-Dean Faculty of Science from 2010 – 2012 and HOD, Marine Sciences from 2013 – 2014.
