Dr. Olanike Maria Buraimoh is an Environmental Microbiologist with special focus on bioremediation of polluted ecosystems and bioconversion of organic wastes to value-added products. She has a BSc. degree in Microbiology (second class upper) from the University of Ilorin in 1994, Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the University of Lagos in 2005, MSc. and PhD from the University of Lagos in 2008 and 2014 respectively. She was a visiting scholar to Ohio State University, Ohio, USA in 2011/2012. She was a Quality Control Officer with Drill Point Engineering Limited, Lagos (1995-2001). Olanike was a biology teacher and Head, Science Department in Baptist Academy, Obanikoro, Lagos from 2001 to 2008. She was the first Quality Control Manager, University of Lagos (Ventures Unit) from 2008 to 2012. She joined the academics as a researcher and assistant lecturer in 2012, Promoted to Lecturer II in 2014 and Lecturer I in 2017.  She has supervised over 35 undergraduate and 4 MSc students. She is currently a co-supervisor to a PhD student. She has mentored over 500 students in her capacity as the staff adviser Microbiology Department (Oct. 2012 – Jan. 2017) and course adviser (2014 till date). Dr. Buraimoh has conducted research on microbial degradation of lignocellulose wastes and lignin-related compounds. She is the principal investigator of two on-going projects: the generation of bioethanol and organic acids, from sugarcane, plantain and cassava wastes by bacterial species isolated from a tropical estuarine and biogas production from organic wastes. She is a member of several professional and academic groups (both national and international). She has won a couple of grants, awards and funding.
