Dr. Fatsuma Olaleru is a lecturer/researcher in the Department of Zoology, University of Lagos. She was the first PhD graduate of Natural Resources Conservation Programme from that Department. Olaleru is passionate about conserving the indigenous mona monkey populations in the University. She studies, and publishes on the conservation of this species and other Nigerian fauna.
Olaleru advocates for non-lethal human-mona monkey conflicts resolutions in urban forest fragments of Lagos State, and the species’ protection for eco-tourism purpose. She is the current President of the Nigeria Tropical Biology Association, and the Financial Secretary of Organisation of Women in Science for the Developing World, Lagos Branch. She has attended various professional seminars, conferences and workshops both at local and international level. She has 28 publications in both local and international peer-reviewed journals. Olaleru is a recipient of international conference travel awards and a University-based research grant.
