Dr. AFOLAYAN is a Neuroanatomist and a neurochemist with research focus on neurobiology and neurochemistry of neuropsychiatry diseases as well as developmental biology. Her first degree was in Anatomy at the University of Ilorin (2005); subsequently, she obtained both her Masters and Ph.D. in Anatomy (Neuroanatomy) from the University of Ilorin in 2009 and 2013 respectively. Over the years, she conducted research in developmental neuroscience, neuroanatomy and neurochemistry of NMDARs in an experimental model of schizophrenia. She has mentored 7 students, and she is a member of 6 of professional and academic groups. She has won a number grants which involves international brain research organisation young investigator training program (IBRO YITP) in 2011, IBRO-ARC (2015) short term grant to visit another laboratory in 2017. University of Lagos FBMS/ College of Medicine international travel grant award for junior faculty (2017).
