Prof Akinwande is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with focus on Dento-alveolar Surgery, Maxillofacial trauma and Oncology. He has undergraduate degree in Bachelor of Dental surgery of the University of Lagos in 1974. He is the first Fellow of NPMCN in the Faculty of Dental Surgery in 1985 by examination, and obtained Fellowship of FWACS in 1987. Over the years, he conducted research in dento-alveolar surgery, trauma, oncology, dental education and mentored  200 number of students, worked at Faculty of Dental Surgery KNUST, Ghana  and achieved four membership of professional and academic groups, had 54 publications, won and managed 2  grants.
