Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Prof Arotiba is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with a focus on Orofacial Surgical Onclology and Facial Trauma. His primary research focus is on Ameloblastoma of the jaw bones. He had his undergraduate degree in Dental Surgery from University of Lagos in 1985; Obtained his Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons in Dental Surgery (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 1992. He also obtained the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate College in the same Discipline in 1995 and the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Dental Surgery in 2002. Over the years He has visited Maxillofacial / Head and Neck Surgery units in the UK, USA, India and South Africa and participated in conferences / courses in Italy, Switzerland, UK, USA, South Africa etc. His primary research focus is on Ameloblastoma - the most common jaw tumour in Black Africans. He is presently exploring collaborations with researchers from Kenya and South Africa. He has mentored many postgraduate students some of whom are now Professors in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Nigeria. He was instrumental in bringing the world famous AO foundation / AO Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery Courses to Nigeria in 2010 and was the Local Course Chairman for the first two courses held in Nigeria- these were the first AO courses held in West Africa. The AOCMF group has trained over 150 Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in Nigeria since then.
