Urban And Regional Planning

My experience cut across three sectors – the private, the public and the academia - which define who I am as a lecturer, researcher and urban planner.  I received my PhD from the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape, Newcastle University, United Kingdom, and MSc and BSc degrees in urban planning from the University of Lagos. I have over 10 years of professional, teaching and research experience. More broadly, I am profoundly concerned about urban affairs, with a particular focus on urban development planning, environmental planning, sustainability and governance. I draw examples from urban dynamics and development paradoxes in the Global South generally. My research is underpinned by critical realism philosophical strand. As a critical realist, I combine both inductive and deductive approaches in my research. I have been involved in a number of funded research projects. The outcomes of my research have resulted in over 20 publications as journal articles, conference proceedings, book chapters and working paper. I am a member of various research working groups and networks, including: Pro-Poor Development Research Group; Land Administration and Spatial Data Infrastructure for Disaster Management and Human Settlements Resilience and West Africa Urbanism and Heritage Research Network. As a lecturer, I have successfully supervised or currently supervising students on multidisciplinary areas, including urban agriculture and urban land use planning, smart cities and urban planning, disaster management and urban development planning, and resilience cities and urban planning. I served as an external examiner at the University of the Free State, South Africa for a PhD thesis titled: Improving the Resilience of Informal Settlements in Mountainous Region of Africa: Comparative Case Studies in Qwa Qwa, South Africa and Konso in Southern Ethiopia. As an Urban Planner, I have been involved in the preparation of various Strategic Development Plans, Land Use and Facilities Mapping and Environmental Impact Assessment Reports. I have achieved full membership of Nigerian Institute of Town Planners and Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria.
