Mary-Theresa Niemogha is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, College of Medicine University of Lagos. She was the Coordinator of MLS, 2013 – 2014. She was also the Head of Unit Biotechnology, in the Division of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, Yaba, Lagos, where she worked as a Medical Laboratory Scientist 1988-1998 and Research Fellow 1998-2012. She has worked in areas involving Health Research including Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Virology, Immunology, Chemotherapy etc. She has also contributed in the of Molecular Epidemiology of Salmonella species. Neisseeria meningitides, VibrIo cholera post-Surgical infections and Sexually Transmitted Diseases Reproductive Health and Chemotherapy.

Her area of research interest is Medical Microbiology/ Bacterial Genetics and Biotechnology She has  being  involved in community based research where She brought  succor  to communities  by phenotyping  and genotyping circulating strains of Vibrio cholerae and Neisseria meningitides in outbreak areas where her study effected policy change on control. She contributed in the study where bacterial pathogen were isolated from naira notes, which led to change of Nigerian naira made of paper was changed to polymer currency. In one of her study on biodegredative role of bacteria, their findings were applied to areas in Niger Delta, where organisms were used to mop out oil spillage. These studies have contributed to reduce environmental Hazards, thereby preserving lives.

She took part in the grant writing which attracted grant from south Caroline for Microbicide study and she participated in the clinical trial; the SAVVY(C31G-candidate Microbidicide)with potential to inactive HIV. She is currently into Research on Bacterial and Viral Risk factors of cervical Neoplasm. She has been several times external examiner for MSC. and PhD Students, University of Lagos and University of Benin.

Mary-Theresa Niemogha got awards as the best mathematics student, Fed. Sch. Of Arts and Science, Victoria Island Lagos (1980), Best Medical Laboratory Scientist, NIMR, Yaba (1994). Best PhD study, National University Commission (NUC), 2004. Best merit award on Catholic Archdiocese-Community Health care, 2014. Best Teacher Award, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, June 2016.

She is a member of Biomedical Science Institute, London. Member Nigeria Infection Control Association. Member Immunology and Microbiology Societies. Member of NIMR, ethics Review Board. She is currently employed as a Lecturer/Research Scientist in the College of Medicine University of Lagos.  She is a Patroness of the Nigerian Red Cross Society Isolo/Ejigbo District, where she contributes to community health, ensuring health in both Orthodox and Trado-medical Health care centers.
