Dr Bolawa is an Environmental Biochemist with a special focus on Environmental biochemistry and Nutritional Biochemistry. Her area of specialization ranges from Environmental Pollution, Environmental Health, Heavy metals in our Environment and its impact on health, Nutritional biochemistry, Remediation of pollution etc.

She has her undergraduate degree in 1994 from university of Lagos. Her under graduate degree is in biochemistry. She has her masters in Biochemistry from university of Lagos, in 1997 and a Ph.D in Environmental biochemistry from the university of Lagos in 2016.

She has over ten years of experience in conducting research work in Environmental biochemistry and nutritional biochemistry. Part of her research experience includes: heavy metals in water bodies and fishes in Lagos, Nigeria, heavy metals in vegetables, chicken, turkey, meat and meat products, heavy metals in herbal alcoholic drinks and herbal medicinal drinks, heavy metals in pediatric syrups etc. She has mentored over forty undergraduate students and is a member of : SETAC ( Society for Environmental, Toxicology and Chemistry),  SETPOM (Society for Toxicology, Pollution and Mitigation), NSBMB (Nigeria Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology). She has over 12 publications to her credit and was the best course adviser in Biochemistry department (2016/2017 session).
