Dr. Akande is an astute Biochemist and has experience, requisite training, expertise and motivation necessary to successfully carry out research projects. He has his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry, graduated from the University of Ibadan in 1987; Masters in Zoology (Parasitology) in 1997 from Bayero University, Kano and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Ibadan in 2010. I possess sound background in biochemistry, with specific training and expertise in Tropical Medicine, metabolism, toxicology, natural products and public health issues.  My research includes nutrition in health and disease, novel drug development from plant sources and toxicology.  I am a principal  investigator (PI) in a recent central research committee (CRC)  grant award in the University of Lagos with reference no: CRC NO.2015/28  in which we are currently investigating correlation between dietary intake and the rising incidence of cancers in Nigeria. As a biochemistry lecturer and researcher in a prestigious Nigerian University who is presently active in teaching and research with spread to undergraduate, postgraduate and medical students, As a result of these previous experiences I am well equipped in handling research related to metabolomics and other areas in biochemistry .This has potential of creating opportunities for molecular Biology education which is capable of becoming platform for developing locally driven research in this field and allied topics. I have 30 years of research and teaching. I have trained a large number of professionals such as Physiotherapists, Imaging Scientists (Radiographers), laboratory scientists, Medical doctors, Nurses, Pharmacists, and Biochemists among others. I am currently involved in teaching, research and supervision of many undergraduate and postgraduate projects ( M.Sc and PhD). I am a member of many academic and professional bodies.

I am aware of the importance of frequent communication among project members and of constructing a realistic research plan, timeline, and budget. I have researched and published extensively in public health issues, natural products, toxicology and medicinal plants. I have research collaborators within and outside Nigeria. They include Prof. Elijah Kehinde of the Kuwait University, Safat and Dr Dosu Gbadero of Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Oyo State. I also have robust active collaboration with senior and eminent researchers such as Profs. G.O . Ademowo, E.O Farombi of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria and Dr. T.A. Samuel of the Department of Biochemistry, University of Lagos.
