Prof. Esther Agbaje’s research focus is on exploration of medicinal plants for possible pharmacological and toxicological properties, with the aim of taking the laboratory-investigated, validated, and approved pharmaceuticals to bed-side.

Her various research thrusts have led to the discovery of some invaluable plant products possessing high efficacies in the management of disease conditions such as peptic ulcer, ulcerative colitis, hypertension, malaria and diabetes mellitus.

NAFDAC recently, towards the end of last, year gave an approval to patent one of the phytoconstituents of a plant co-investigated with her Ph. D. student. The plant was discovered to be very useful in the treatment of diabetes mellitus in humans.
