Prof. Fatai A. BADRU

Prof. Badru obtained a First Division in West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE) (1978). He was the best student in hospital final exams in the Lagos State School of Nursing, 1980. Between 1983-2010, he obtained five certificates at the University of Lagos Akoka including PhD and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE). Between 2013-2014, he was a visiting and Faculty Scholar at the University of North Texas (UNT), USA for Post-Doc. Specialist Certificate in Applied Gerontology, Suicide Prevention, Psychodrama and Bio-geriatrics. Prof Badru also had training in Journalism and Professional Writing from New Jersey, and Salesmanship and Marketing from Cheshire and Manchester, England.

Prof Badru taught Behavioural Sciences and Management at School of Nursing, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, 1991-2009. He is the first professor of social work in the 161 Universities of Nigeria to deliver his inaugural lecture, and the first in medical/health social work. He was the pioneering Head, Department of Social Work, University of Lagos, Nigeria, 2018-2021.

The Don has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles in learned journals and chapters in reviewed books nationally and in international outlets. He has presented over 60 papers in national and international conferences/workshops/webinars. He has had several training in HIV/AIDS management and TOTs and webinars in COVID-19, Substance abuse and Management of Substance Use Disorders.
