Prof. Sunday Olayemi

Prof. Olayemi is a clinical pharmacologist with special focus on rational drug use/ drug utilization and adverse effects. His first degree was in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Lagos (1988), Masters in pharmacology and public health in 1997 and 2001, respectively, from the University of Lagos and admitted as a Fellow of the West African College of Physician in 2005. For more than 18 years, he has conducted research in renal/cardiovascular pharmacology and pharmacoepidemiology. He is currently working on potential drug-drug interactions among chronic heart failure patients. He is a Consultant for World Health Organization/Federal Ministry of Health in the formulation and revision of the Standard treatment guidelines for Nigerian Hospitals. Former Co-ordinator Pharmacovigilance for National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control, Drug monitoring and surveillance Western Zone.  Prof. Olayemi has mentored more than 60 undergraduate, 20 postgraduate students since 2005, and they are doing great in both academic and industry. He is an assesor/Examiner for Clinical Pharmacology Fellowship at the National Postgraduate Medical College. Prof. Olayemi has held several administrative positions such as the head of Pharmacology, therapeutics and toxicology department (2015 to date) as well as consultant clinical pharmacologist/Physician in the Department of Medicine, Lagos University Teaching Hospital. He is a member of West African Society of Pharmacology, International society of Pharmacovigilance etc. He has won several grants including University of Lagos Research grant. He has well over 70 publications in reputable national/ international journals
