Professor Olufunmmilayo Adeyemi

Prof. Adeyemi obtained her B.Sc. degree in Pharmacology from the University of Ibadan, then proceeded to University of Lagos for her Ph.D. in Pharmacology (1985). She was a visiting research fellow at University of Cardiff, UK, where she worked on the Vas deferens isolated from rodents.  She has served the University of Lagos in different capacities such as; the Head, Department of Pharmacology, Therapeutics and Toxicology; Dean of Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, member of committees within and outside the University including; Member, Central Research Committee, Chairman Postgraduate Education Committee and Academic Planning Committee (Sciences), University of Lagos Postgraduate School. She has also served as the Secretary and President, West African Society for Pharmacology (WASP) as well as Chairperson, Local organizing committee for WASP annual Conference. She has produced several undergraduates and postgraduate students and supervised well over 12 Ph.D. thesis. She has published well over 100 articles in reputable and peer reviewed Journals.

Her areas of research interest include the discovery of disease modifying therapy for metabolic and neurodegenerative disorders from natural product and safety profile of natural products and new chemical entities, isolated tissue and organ activities. She has received several grants including; University of Lagos Central Research Committee Research grant (N 2,999,662:00) to investigate the ‘’Effect of subchronic treatment of Cnestis ferruginea on behavioral, neurochemical and endocrine changes in depression in rodents. Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) Research Grant (N990,000) to investigate the ‘’Effect of Subchronic treatment of Alchornea cordifolia on behavioral and monoaminergic systems in depression (CRC/TETFUND/2011/01).
