Prof Ibironke Desalu graduated from College of Medicine, University of Lagos in 1986. She did her postgraduate training in anaesthesia at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital(LUTH), Hillingdon Hospital, Uxbridge and Queens Hospital, Burton-on-Trent and obtained her Fellowship from both the West African College of Surgeons and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria in  2003. 

Her sub-speciality interests are (i) Paediatric anaesthesia of which she completed a Clinical Fellowship from Barts’ and The London Hospital in 2006,( ii) Resuscitation and  (iii) Patient blood management. Ibironke Desalu is presently a Professor of Anaesthesia of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos and a Consultant Anaesthetist to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital.

 She has trained numerous undergraduate students over the years and has supervised over 20 postgraduate dissertations at the Fellowship level. Prof Desalu has over 60 publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals. She has been the Sub-dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, University of Lagos and the Deputy CMAC of LUTH and is presently the Head of Department of Anaesthesia.
