Dr. Olunifesi Adekunle SURAJ is a New/Digital/Social Media Thought Leader, an ICT & Multimedia Consultant and a Knowledge/Intellectual Capital Management Expert who has been at the vanguard of promoting Internet Neutrality and cyber safety for the past 15 years. Dr. SURAJ’s research focus is on the dynamism of knowledge/free/open/digital society as advanced by the new and social media and how its contemporary issues of freedom of expression and its inherent vices of radicalization and extremism can be simultaneously promoted and curtailed respectively using Media and Information Literacy (MIL) as an intercultural dialogue and behavioural change tools. Dr. SURAJ believed a critical understanding of the media and its associated information will help moderate the vices in the Social media while promoting the ideas of open society and liberal democracies.  Also, Olunifesi has done extensive work in the areas of ICT and Telecommunication policies emphasizing on Broadband infrastructural investment policies as a driver of national development, equitable digital access and citizens economic empowerment in achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goal. He has equally initiated series of researches on knowledge / intellectual capital management as an alternative and effective means of managing service and knowledge intensive companies. Dr. Olunifesi Adekunle SURAJ is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos, Nigeria. Prior to joining University of Lagos, he was the Sub-Dean and Postgraduate Programme Coordinator, School of Communication, Lagos State University where he served as the congregational representative to theUniversity Senate; member of the University’s Senate curriculum committee;Vice Chairman, University Information & Communication Technology Advisory Committeeand Member, Lagos State University Research Group on Science and Technology. Dr. Olunifesi is the present National Coordinator of the UNESCO-initiated Universities Network on Media and Information Literacy (Nigerian Chapter), member of the UNESCO-UNAOC International MIL and Intercultural dialogue (MILID) University Network, member of UNESCO International Organizing Committee on Global MIL Week Conferences, a key member of UNESCO Global Alliance Partnership on Media & Information Literacy (GAPMIL) and member of Media and Information Literacy Coalition of Nigeria (MILCON). He is a Resource Consultant to UNESCO on Internet Radicalization, Media & Information Literacy and also the UNESCO National Coordinator for Media and Information Literacy’s Curriculum intervention in Nigerian Universities. Among others, he has assisted in implementing local and international MIL-related actions supported by UNESCO, Deutshe Welles Akademia and African Free Press. Among others, Dr SURAJ is a Resource Consultant to Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information (NASPRI), Digital Bridge Institute (ITU accredited Telecommunication Training Centre), Media Institute of South Africa (MISA), Telecom Associates, Hammer-Smith Training Consult (HTC), Media Awareness and Information for All Network (MAIN) and United Nations Information Centre (UNIC). Prior to joining academics, he served as the Head of Training / Presales in ComputerWareGroup (a foremost ICT company in West Africa) and as Knowledge / Intellectual Capital Management Consultant to DCC Satellite Telecoms. Dr. Olunifesi holds a Bachelor (B.Sc) Degree in Microbiology, Master (M.Info.Sc) and Doctorate (PhD) Degrees in Information Science from University of Ibadan and a Postgraduate (PGD) Degree in Mass Communication from University of Lagos. Dr. Olunifesi is a member of British Academy of Management (BAM), International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), Global Knowledge Research Networks(GKRN), International Association of Knowledge Management for Development (KM4D), UNESCO University Twinning and Network Scheme (UNITWIN), Media and Information Literacy Intercultural Dialogue (MILID), Association of Communication Scholars and Practitioners of Nigeria (ACSPN),African Council for Communication Education (ACCE), Media and Information Literacy Coalition of Nigeria (MILCON) among others. In the course of its international career, he has been appointed as the Research Consultant and Partner to Digital Bridge Institute, an international trainingarm of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) andSocial Media Consultant to Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information (NASPRI). He has equally helped in facilitating workshops and trainings on investigative journalism and safety of female journalists. Dr Suraj’s international research network includes Journalism Safety Research Networks (JSRN) affiliated with Centre for Freedom of the Media (CFOM), Department of Journalism Studies, University of Sheffield, United Kingdom; and Global Knowledge Research Network (GKRN) affiliated with Department of Information Science, University of Applied Sciences, Potsdam, Germany. His publications and areas of research interestcentre on New / Digital / Social Media, Citizen Journalism&Digital Safety of Journalists, Media and Information Literacy & Intercultural Dialogue, Internet Radicalization & Extremism, Telecommunications and Knowledge /Intellectual Capital Management.He has 31 publications (29 academic publications and 6 technical papers) published locally and internationally to his credit. Also, he has mentored 204 students (supervised 10Master’s dissertations, 18 Postgraduate Diploma Projects; and co-supervised 2 doctoral theses). Dr Suraj has won and managed UNESCO project grant on Media and Information Literacy Curriculum intervention in Nigerian Universities, Center for Science and Environment grant for Data Journalism, TERTFUND grant on Safety of Digital Citizens in Nigeria and TERTFUND grant on Impact of Freedom of Information Act on Journalism practice in Nigeria.

In addition, he is a reviewer of top highly rated international journals such as Journal of KnowledgeManagement, The Journal of Information and Knowledge Management Systems, published quarterly by Emerald Publishers and Fort Hare Papers,published byGovan Mbeki Research and Development centre, South Africa. He is a widely travelled academic with strong presence in both local and international relevant academic conferences.
