Dr. Ganiyu OYETIBO
Faculty

Dr. Oyetibo is a Senior Lecturer and expert in Environmental Biotechnology and Geomicrobiology with more than 10 years’ experience in developing various microbial-based strategies to decommissioning environmental matrixes polluted with organic and inorganic ecological toxicants. His research program is projected towards incorporating deep and broad knowledge of microbial biochemistry and physiology through microbial genetics episteme to decipher metabolism and bio-catalysis of various microorganisms that would be useful for bioremediation technology, waste management, and value-added chain of agricultural products. He has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed scholarly articles in reputable academic journals whose impact factors ranged 1.8 to 9.2 culminating to Scopus h-index ranking of 12 and over 500 citations (Research Gate). He won the highly competitive Postdoctoral Fellowship of the prestigious Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) in 2012 through 2014, which afforded him to embark on research expeditions in Sendai, Japan and also participated in the mega-project on bioremediation of agricultural soils impacted with toxic metals of March 11, 2011 Great East-Japan Earthquake and Tsunami disaster. Nevertheless, in a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) sponsored Phage Academy, Dr Oyetibo acquired deep knowledge in using high-throughput technologies to hunt bacteriophages from environmental vagaries that would be exploited as sustainable alternative to chemotherapeutic agents against etiologies of debilitating diseases of global concern. He has variously participated in environmental impact assessment, value-added chains of food crops, waste management, and waste-to-wealth programs in Nigeria with many local and international grants to his credit. His recent activities in Green Economy, Bio-economy and Blue Economy have been rewarded with multi-million naira research grants from Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in 2019, and 2020. He has been invited to speak in international conferences spanning United Kingdom, Canada, USA, South Korea, Japan, Australia and Nigeria. He is a member of professional bodies in Nigeria and overseas.
