Prof. Olubunmi A Otubanjo is an experienced and seasoned parasitologist with interest in  parasites epidemiology, chemotherapy and disease control in the tropics. A zoologist by profession, she has taught and mentored tertiary students for more than 4 decades, teaching parasitology, animal diversity, ecosystems, systematics, embryology and animal histology. She is an expert in electron microscopy . She holds a BSc degree in Zoology from the University of Ibadan and  a PhD degree in Parasitology from the University of Wales, Cardiff. Her research studies have been broad, working on several aspects, as she has worked on several human parasitic diseases  including  onchocerciasis, malaria, lymphatic filariasis,  schistosomiasis and tungiasis. Parasites of  wild animals (bat, lizards, geckos) and fresh water fishes  have been documented in her research work. She had been involved in the  country wide rapid diagnosis of Loa loa using Rapid Epidemiologic Procedure in Loiasis (RAPLOA) in several states in Nigeria including Kogi, Ondo, Osun and Ogun States, in collaboration with Sight Savers, UNICEF and World Health Organization.

She had taught in 5 national tertiary institutions and had supervised several undergraduate and postgraduate students  at all the institutions in the space of 42 years. She presently supervises 2 MSc and 5 PhD students in parasitology, with research topics including biodiversity of mosquitoes , ethno botanical studies of some plants extracts on mosquitoes and malaria parasite, parasite fauna of some animals and epidemiology of lymphatic filariasis in South-western Nigeria. She is a member of the Governing Council of Caleb University, Imota and Lagos State Polytechnic. She is a scientific member and adviser on malaria control in Lagos State.

She is currently the Head of Department of Zoology, mentoring students( undergraduate and postgraduate)  and academic staff; and has introduced innovative ideas in the teaching of the subject. She is happily married with children.
