Dr. Hakeem Amuda is currently an Associate Professor of Welding Process Optimisation and Surface Modification; and a Deputy Director (Innovation) Research and Innovation Office, University of Lagos, Nigeria. He has in the last 20 been involved in academics, research and development. His research interests span materials development and processing for emerging technologies such as low energy fusion welding processes and surface modification of metallic materials for improved corrosion and thermal efficiency. In specifics, his research portfolios cover materials processing and fabrication, computational mechanics applied to material processing, predictive algorithm, innovative coating technique via TIG torch melting and laser materials processing; phase transformation in solids; and materials characterisation. His main current research is on the production of self-lubricating functional graded metal matrix composite on titanium alloy for high temperature application. He is equally working on the development of thermal barrier coating for the hot section of jet engines, coal and gas fired turbines. He is collaborating with other colleagues on: microstructure and mechanical property characterisation in thin wall ductile iron castings, characterization of flow behavior in AA 7075 aluminum alloy during hot deformation and optimization of design parameters of flame torch melting for surface modification. He has successfully supervised close to 60 undergraduate students, about 18 masters’ students and currently supervises 3 Ph.D. candidates. He has received two minor research grants from the University of Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria; and was co-researchers in about five International Islamic University Malaysia’s funded researches. He together with Prof. Akinlabi won a ZR 450,000.00 Equipment Grant from the National Research Foundation, South Africa. He has about 75 publications in various journals, conferences, technical reports, book chapters, monographs and dissertation to his credit. He is a reviewer to several journals including Journal of Materials Processing Technology (Elsevier-ISI Indexed), Journal of Engineering Manufacture (Sage Publishers-ISI Indexed), Materials and Design (Elsevier-ISI Indexed) Journal of Materials: Design and Applications (Sage Publishers-ISI Indexed), Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance (Springer-ISI Indexed), Journal of Engineering Research (University of Lagos-Non Indexed), UNILAG Journal of Medicine, Science and Technology, Ife Journal of Technology (Obafemi Awolowo University), Advances in Materials and Processing Technologies (AMPT), Regional Tribology Conference (RTC2011), Malaysia. Dr. Amuda has served as Internal Examiner to eight (8) PhD Thesis across contiguous departments in the University of Lagos, Nigeria; and External Examiner to 10 PhD Thesis from Andhra University College of Engineering, Visakhapatnam, Anna University, Chennai and Andhra University, Andhra Pradesh, India. A thoroughbred academic who has spent the last five years as visiting scholar to Malaysia and South Africa on a range of developmental issues such as production of functionally graded metal matrix composite for the aerospace industry and the development of advanced manufacturing and marine materials for the maritime industry. He is a member of several professional bodies including American Society of Materials, American Welding Society, American Ceramic Society, The Material Society, Nigeria Society of Engineers and a registered engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering, Nigeria. He has attended and participated in more than 30 professional conferences across several continents of the world. He holds PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the International Islamic University Malaysia, a Master’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering, University of Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria and Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
